Jan is afraid. Afraid of not being as smart as her sister or as coolly competent as her brother, actually afraid of anything new. She really doesn’t know who or what she is, but she knows for certain that she is not as good as her siblings. Why has God made her that way? She manages to hide her insecurities under a carefree, zany mask, which she never willingly removes, until during a family canoe trip, the “I don’t wanna chute” blows her cover and reveals the one character flaw that she has carefully hidden for years. She is a coward and now her whole family knows it. Well Jan is determined to make a change; to face her fears to prove to herself and others that she is no longer ruled by it. The answer? To go back to the very chute that defeated her on a kid-only canoe trip. The canoe trip begins with high hopes as each sibling exhibits the necessary skills to accomplish this challenge. But disaster strikes, just around the bend. Survival will depend upon ingenuity, faith and courage.
