Historical Fiction

Set in the 1890s, “New Beginnings: Annabelle’s Story” details Annabelle’s immigration journey through Ellis Island. Traveling from Hungary with her 4-year-old daughter, tragedy strikes. Paula suddenly dies, leaving Annabelle adrift and without support. Alfredo, a young Italian man who is also on the ship, takes pity on Annabelle helping her through the inspections at Ellis Island. She has intrigued him from his first exposure to her, while witnessing her pleading with the gypsy to tell her fortune, yet displaying her courage. He fears that in her current disheveled and grief-stricken state, she will be sent back to Hungary. For some reason, one that even he cannot understand, he wants to ensure her safe passage through Ellis Island. Delivering her to her family, Alfredo goes on his way. Annabelle is left to recover from her loss, barely able to survive. Neither Annabelle nor Alfredo realize the challenges they will be facing as their lives drift apart and later converge,
