Love in the Archives, a Patchwork of True Stories About Suicide Loss
LOVE IN THE ARCHIVES, A PATCHWORK OF THRU STORIES ABOUT SUICIDE LOSS, is a 54,000-word collection of linked narrative essays about child loss, bereavement by suicide, and how finding a community of grieving parents led the way through unfathomable grief. Like the attention span of the bereaved, most of the stories are short. The tremendous success of the young adult novel, 13 Reasons Why, which became a controversial Netflix series, makes it clear that there is interest in literary explorations of suicide. While there are many excellent books about grief and suicide, they are often written in an academic or faith-based self-help style. Early in my bereavement, I read all I could find. What I really wanted though, what I needed, were real stories—heartfelt, first-person accounts that would let me know I was not alone. LOVE IN THE ARCHIVES does not attempt to show that one would get over such a profound loss but that it's possible to find a bearable sorrow and even learn to laugh again.
