This rather dark novel about the Potts family can drag you into depression, set you alight with rage, and yell at the abject stupidity of the parents and more. But, once I hit chapter 3, I was into it and couldn’t put it down. This is not a beach read, it is not an easy read, but if you like complicated relationships, some of which are not socially acceptable at all, then Down to the River should be your next read. Pierce does a wonderful job of writing angst and you’re left wondering just what it was…
