Dreams and Mirrors
My book tells my story about the physical/emotional abuse and trauma I experienced growing up in a white suburban family with many social/economic advantages. Those advantages did not protect me. I stuffed the shame and fear I endured. At age 22 I had my first, terrorizing, screaming to wake nightmare, which lasted 35 years. I write how I went from my worthless self image to having a wonderful wife and daughter. I had a successful, varied and rewarding career with: The Montana Human Rights Division; as a Peace Corps/Americorps recruiter; in 1984 the Campaign Field Coordinator for Vermont's only female Governor of Vermont. Eventually I worked in Public Health in Vermont, where I learned simple to understand, helpful, research based information for those who, like me, experienced troublesome childhoods. In 2014 The American Academy of Pediatrics awarded me THE National Child Health Advocacy Award for "his outstanding contributions to the health and well being of children in Vermont.
