Death in the Land of Enchantment

Holly Harrison
Santa Fe Patrol Officer Louise Sanchez fills in for Detective Pascal Ruiz, who is awaiting trial. The first week on the job, she is assigned to a murder case. Webster Madison, an attorney contracted by a financial company under investigation for money laundering, is found with a butcher knife in his heart and a "date rape" drug in his system. The 911 caller, twenty-one dollars in play money found on the victim, and a woman’s photo from an online dating site lead to three women connected to Madison. When the clues don't add up, Sanchez turns to Ruiz for help. In return, he asks for help finding his father’s missing lady friend and information on Native American pottery that disappeared during a move at the Museum. Sanchez suspects Peter Roche, the head of the financial company, but he has a solid alibi, having left Santa Fe for Zurich the night of the murder. She enlists Rupert Montoya, the station’s computer geek, who discredits Roche’s alibi. But the FBI wants to prosecute Roche.
