Blood Saints

Allan Peter Weissmann

Blood Saints reimagines the Spanish Inquisition as a rising supernatural empire. When Torquemada and two fellow inquisitors travel to Wallachia seeking new ways to crush heresy, they encounter werewolves, ancient Carpathian spirits, and Vlad Dracul. The monks return to Spain. Two are vampires, and one is a werewolf. They are driven by hunger, zeal, and a theology of fear. Two unlikely figures rise in opposition. Rabbi Benveniste, a Kabbalistic scholar, loses his wife and daughter to the fangs of Torquemada. Thereafter, he receives supernatural callings to rescue victims of the Inquisition. He befriends Maddoc, a Cistercian monk, who lost his family to a werewolf. They are helped by the rabbi's Aunt Sunhoula, an herbalist and auric healer, and by a brotherhood of mystic scholars. Blending historical detail with dark myth, Blood Saints reveals a kingdom where inquisitors become predators—and resistance is found in the hearts of the least expected.
