"50 Great Writers You Should Be Reading"
an annual publication of "The Authors Show"

It's the "People's Choice Writers Award"
Let's use the analogy of the mother of all contests - The Oscars - where some awards are for best movies, others are for best actors/actresses. Using this analogy, our contest is like giving the Oscar for best actor/actress, not for best movie. Here this means best AUTHOR, not best BOOK. The contest is about the author behind the book(s), and the public at large is invited to read these submissions and decide whom to vote for.
Why Is This Important?
Authors must build long-term platforms to create ongoing sales and achieve success. People buy books because of the personality BEHIND the work. A great book has very little long-term market value if the author remains relatively anonymous. It is for these reasons our contest focuses on the real story and the personality behind the book.
Award contests must be viewed as being a marketing tool that should be an integral part of the marketing strategies designed by all authors. It takes time to win awards, and the more awards authors win the more recognition for their work they stand to receive, and that helps sell books.
There are many contests available to authors with each having its own purpose. Our contest is about "marketing" the author. To think "it's about how many clicks one can get" would be a very narrow minded view of this contest, which in fact is completely about giving exposure to participating authors (that is marketing), one of them being the "clicking" on the contestants names, the others include giving participants exposure via the contest extensive behind the scene publicity campaign through media and social media, and winners receiving long term exposure (1+ year) through our book and several online properties (see 50GreatWritersYouShouldBeReading.com).
Book marketing 101 will tell you that the first thing authors need is exposure. Getting book sales is a numbers game that is directly related to the number of people who hear about the authors and their books. The # 1 challenge authors mention is their shortcoming in marketing, not understanding how to market their books.
That is why we do what we do: we are an "online book marketing" business as explained on our ABOUT OUR SHOWS page, offering authors exposure opportunities to the book buying public, and we do this in a number of ways: our show, our BMP program, our contest, and more.
ONGOING BOOK SALES
Awareness and credibility sell books, and an award (whether finalist or winner) is one of the most powerful ways to bring credibility and create sales - both today and in the future. From the book buyers’ perspective, an award may be the deciding factor and may mean the difference between a sale and no sale.
ONGOING PUBLICITY FOR ALL CONTEST PARTICIPANTS
CONTESTANTS
Contestants benefit from our continuous publicity outreach through media releases, on social media platforms and through our other behind the scene marketing efforts throughout the duration of the contest that lasts several months.
FINALISTS AND WINNERS
Both contest finalists and winners receive an official digital seal they may use on their websites, blogs and in other ways to signify their status in the "50 Great Writers You Should Be Reading" contest. Both finalists and winners may publicize this with no time limits.

This produces instant credibility, a third party endorsement and a lot of marketing value;
