The History of The Authors Show
Radio and TV "talk shows", as we have known them for the past few decades, present a wide variety of carefully selected topics to their audiences, and to captivate the largest number of listeners and/or viewers - their ultimate goal - it is essential that these programs be dynamic. To help them with that task, show producers introduce guests to be interviewed by the show hosts on the topic at hand. Often these guests are authors, and although generally given less than 5 minutes of "spotlight" (especially on TV), these authors welcome the invitation as it offers them a chance to talk about their books. Everybody is happy: the station has a program, the producer has a topic, the host has a guest, the guest has an audience s/he would most likely otherwise never get elsewhere. But there is one problem: so many authors, and not enough radio/TV time available!
In 2005 when all the radio/TV stations "pooh-poohed" the Internet, Danielle Hampson had the vision to build a platform where authors would be given much more than the time generally allocated by conventional media. So, she developed, produced and hosted her first Internet TV show called "Arizona Authors", where each author was interviewed for up to 15 minutes and broadcast online for up to a full week, non-stop 24/7.
The word about her new show spread like wild fire and shortly after Arizona Authors' debut, Danielle started to receive requests for interviews from authors in California, Oregon, Washington and other west coast states, and to accommodate these out of state authors, she renamed the show "The Authors Show".
Very soon, authors contacted her from Texas, Michigan, Florida, New York, and eventually from all over the United States, Canada, and also from overseas. Guests were flying to her Phoenix based green screen studio from the UK, Germany, and even from the Middle East.
Understanding that not all authors may be able to travel to be a guest on her online TV show, in 2007 Ms. Hampson launched the online radio version of the same show, and asked Don McCauley to host the radio show for her. Within less than 72 hours of the radio show announcement, Danielle received over 700 interview requests from authors around the world, and soon authors were booked on the show to discuss their books via telephone interviews with the host.
Unlike the TV show, its radio counterpart offers no logistical challenges, which contributed to its rapid growth. So much so that Danielle found herself in the position of having too many authors for one host, so to relieve Don of some of the hosting pressure, she jumped back into hosting shows again and together they shared the task of conducting all the interviews. But with the ever growing number of interviews being conducted, in 2014 she brought in Linda Thompson as an additional radio host.
Now in 2019 and in its 14th year of production, The Authors Show broadcasts interviews on multiple "channels" each featuring one individual author for a full 24hrs Monday through Thursday, and 3-day weekends (Fri/Sat/Sun). In the past 13 full years of production, the show has processed over 5000 authors.
Danielle Hampson - Founder of "The Authors Show", Executive Producer, Host, Literary Agent, Public Speaker
With a European business, marketing & languages education, prior to entering the online media industry more than a decade ago when "podcasting" was not yet a word, as a multi-lingual Cross Cultural Expert and International Business Consultant, Ms. Hampson traveled the world helping business executives in small and Fortune 100 companies develop & implement global marketing strategies. As the founder of a business networking organization with multiple chapters across several states, she has also helped thousands of entrepreneurs & managers develop and improve their networking skills. She is an author on that very subject who speaks to the private and public sectors on that topic. Often referred to as the "Queen of Win-Win", it is that philosophy that has helped her gain the respect of clients across borders & continents and created a demand for her to represent authors globally, something she does through her consulting division, The Art of Networking.
With over 13 years of podcasting experience, Danielle also often speaks to publishing industry organizations and groups of authors on the topic of utilizing audio & video as a book marketing tool and how to more effectively manage social media marketing.
In between conducting interviews and marketing The Authors Show, Ms. Hampson also puts her skills to good use volunteering time and resources with World Academy for the Future of Women, a U. S. based nonprofit organization whose mission is to accelerate women leadership around the world through a 3-year leadership curriculum taught at SIAS University in China, as well as in Nepal and Bangladesh. She also is the Executive Producer & Host of World Academy Radio, a podcast she created to help WAFW expand its global outreach by showcasing the WAFW leadership, alumni, students, sponsors and others who share the Academy’s vision as well as Academy projects & progress in China and around the world. Ms. Hampson frequently travels to China to teach Academy students networking and interviewing/production skills.
In November 2017, Danielle launched "Give a Book Get a Smile", a literacy initiative of The Authors Show that leverages its pool of thousands of authors and other publishing industry relationships, calling on them to commit to giving to this initiative a minimum of five book copies per year, and to let their immediate circle of influence know about the project so that they too may have the opportunity to participate. In 2018, the first full year of operating Give a Book Get a Smile, 1400 books were donated to various organizations in need of books.

During his corporate years he developed and implemented marketing campaigns involving newspaper, radio, TV, magazines, trade shows and direct mail. He also previously served as owner and editor of two successful regional magazines. Linda Thompson - Show Host, Author
Linda's relationship with The Authors Show began in 2006 when she became a guest on the show multiple times prior to becoming a host. Among the many hats she wears, one is being the author of four books. An avid reader too, Linda takes pleasure in meeting new and returning author guests to learn the story behind the book. She often learns that the back story is the key to marketing a new book, be it fiction or non. She says if she ever has the time, she's going to write another book, this one about the joys of being a back yard farmer.
Nancy Villella - Production Assistant
Like Linda, Nancy is an avid reader who devours several books each week. Ms. Villella is the go to person for guests on the show and her dedication & efficiency keep Danielle from going insane. They have been working together since 2006.
